Announcements

The second closing hymn is in celebration of Pastor Matt Zickler’s ordination and installation at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn, Illinois today as their assistant pastor. The words were written by Kathy Lassman and the hymn was presented to Matt Zickler at the end of his vicarage assignment here at Messiah in 2009.

The Lassman & Munsell families would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers following the death of Gene Lassman.  The family held a private service last Friday according to Gene’s wishes at Sunset Hills in Bellevue. The family is anticipating a public memorial to be held at Messiah in September or early October.

Pastor Lassman will be on vacation from August 9 - 21. He will be back to attend the Continuing Education Class on August 22-26 here at Messiah.

Please feel free to take home your bulletin today and every Sunday to enjoy and refer to all week.

Many people are inquiring about wedding gifts for Pastor Mankin & Lisa De Hope who will be married in California on September 10, 2011. There are several options for you. 1) At the Orientation/Installation reception on September 18, there will be a table in the Fellowship Hall where gifts for the newlyweds can be placed. They are registered at Amazon.com, Kohl’s, Macy’s and Target. 2) The church will be collecting money for a “Wedding Check” and donations for that can be put in the Sunday offerings in a marked envelope.  3) There will be a box located on the gift table at the reception on Sept 18 for greeting cards and/or gift cards (grocery, home stores, restaurants).  If you cannot attend the reception, but wish to bring a gift or card, please see Kathy Lassman on Sunday mornings or contact the church office during the week.  All items will be locked up until the reception.

Ladies Night Out is going to The Row House on August 22 at 6 pm. The Row House is a funky place in South Lake Union that serves great Seattle-style food. Check out their website, www.rowhousecafe.com, or see the menu on the bulletin board in the upstairs hallway. Carpooling is available from the north end of the lake or from church. Please RSVP to Bev Edmon.

This is the very last chancefor you to make changes before the new directory is published.  Stop by the table located in the Narthex and check your current directory listing and make any necessary changes.

“Journey to Gethsemane” from Mark 14:32-42 served as the basis for our Sunday School lesson this week.  Have students recall the subject of Jesus’ prayers in the garden.  Parents could discuss, “What does Jesus pray for in the hours before His crucifixion? What kinds of things does God invite us to pray for?”

Please feel free to take home your bulletin today and every Sunday to enjoy and refer to all week.
