In our prayers - Margie Longan, on the passing of her brother Charles “Chuck” Rivers on Monday, September 19, 2011.
Flowers today are given to the Glory of God by Dave and Leslie Miller for their 20th wedding anniversary. David says “Thank you” for 20 wonderful years.
This morning’s choir anthem text may need a bit of explanation. The line “There in heaven with the Savior, Oh, there are ten thousand charms”, does not refer to any sort of jewelry or magic. The text is from the Southern Harmony tradition of the 1800's and refers to something beautiful or the blessings we find in the “arms” of our Savior. Some scholars think it alludes to passages in the Song of Solomon. For the entire text, see the music bulletin board in the upstairs hallway.
Today’s Sunday School lesson is about the wonderful, true story of Joseph. It begins today with the account of jealous brothers selling Joseph into Slavery (Genesis 37). A family discussion might focus on how hatred and unkind thoughts are sins that can lead us to hateful words and actions, as they did for Joseph’s brothers.
DON’T FORGET - The confirmation orientation meeting is tonight at 7 p.m. in the youth room.

It’s Fall and time to organize our dining together groups for the 2011-2012 season. This FUN event assigns singles/couples to groups of 6-8 and they get together several times during the year for a potluck meal. It might be a brunch after church, a dinner or a picnic lunch in a park. The members of the group determine the day to meet and the “host/ess” provides the main course, with other members of the group bringing items to complete the meal. It’s a great way to get to know members of Messiah! Contact Kathy Lassman if you have any questions.
Men’s Night Out: Monday, October 3, 6 p.m. at the India House, 4737 Roosevelt Way NE. RSVP to Brian Danforth.
Junior High, Senior High and College age youth are invited to kick-off the Autumn season tegether on Sunday, October 23rd at 6 p.m. We will be welcoming in the Fall but more importantly, welcoming old and new friends alike to the Messiah Lutheran Youth Group. We will meet at the church and then drive to the Azteca restaurant at the Northgate Mall for good food and conversation. This will also be a good time to welcome Pastor Mankin and his new bride, Lisa, to Messiah Lutheran. Please plan on joining us for this Fall welcome dinner.
Did you know that we have four kitchen crews, which take turns serving at all-congregation events. If you aren’t on a crew and would like to be, please contact Marjelee Murrell at the office and she will get you assigned to a crew. The next big event is “Autumn Evening” on Saturday, October 29th. This is such a fun time of year and there will be some surprises waiting for you.
