Today’s Sunday School: Today’s lesson the children learned how God used Joseph to feed Egypt during a great famine (Genesis 40-41). God sent His Son, Jesus, to save all humanity from sin, death, and the devil. Talk to your children about how our sins cause suffering for both ourselves and others. Talk about times when sin overwhelms us and we cannot escape it. In His love, God takes care of our needs, physical and spiritual. On the cross, Jesus bore God’s anger for our sins and endured the suffering that we deserve. Discuss the reality that in spite of how awful life seems, Jesus is with us through His Word and Sacraments, caring for us always. The first article of the Apostles’ Creed and its explanation is a helpful catechism connection. The children also completed their study on how God used and worked in Joseph’s life. In Genesis 42-45 and 51:15-21, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers and forgives them, telling them that though they meant evil, God used their acts for good. Our Lord Jesus Christ reveals Himself to us and forgives us in His holy Word and Sacraments.
Reminder: Due to the Pastors’ Conference next week, there will be NO confirmation on Wednesday, and NO Thursday morning Bible class. Pastor Lassman will be back for the Thursday night Adult Information Class.
“Autumn Evening” will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 5 p.m. This is such a fun time of year and there will be some surprises waiting for you. A sign up sheet is located on the upstairs bulletin board. We are asking for those attending with names starting A-M to bring a side dish & dessert and those names starting with N-Z to bring a salad and dessert. Looking forward to seeing you there!
It’s Fall and time to organize our Dining Together groups for the 2011-2012 season. This FUN event assigns singles/couples to groups of 6-8 and they get together several times during the year for a potluck meal. It might be a brunch after church, a dinner or a picnic lunch in a park. The members of the group determine the day to meet and the “host/ess” provides the main course, with other members of the group bringing items to complete the meal. It’s a great way to get to know members of Messiah! Contact Kathy Lassman if you have any questions. Sign up on the upstairs bulletin board today!
Junior High, Senior High and College age youth are invited to kick-off the Autumn season together on Sunday, October 23rd at 6 p.m. We will be welcoming in the Fall but more importantly, welcoming old and new friends alike to the Messiah Lutheran Youth Group. We will meet at the church and then drive to the Azteca restaurant at the Northgate Mall for good food and conversation. This will also be a good time to welcome Pastor Mankin and his new bride, Lisa, to Messiah Lutheran. Please plan on joining us for this fall welcome dinner. Please sign up on the youth board in the upper hallway.
Is there anyone who would consider becoming part of our Sunday School “teaching team” at Mekane? The commitment would be one Sunday a month between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Please call Cheryl Kohring or Ann Melvin if you would like to discuss this ministry opportunity.
