Autumn Evening was celebrated on Saturday, October 29 and we had a great turnout, especially the number of kids that came with their families.  I hope everyone enjoyed the evening and had lots of fun.  BIG thank yous to Jeri Aguayo-Schy for her leadership of the green Kitchen Crew, that included Nancy and Larry Bourn, Becky Munsell, June Scott, Lisa Mankin, Ann and Robin Melvin and  Janet and Bob Solum.

For November, we are collecting toothbrushes, toothpaste and body/hand lotion for both Immanuel Community Services and Compass Cascade Women's Shelter.

Pastors AIC class  will meet this Thursday at 7 p.m. with lesson 8, a study on  The Holy Spirit (His person and work.)  Walk-ins are always welcome.

Mark your calendars!  We will be having a congregational meeting on November 20 at 6 p.m.  Please plan on attending this important meeting.

Ladies Night Out - November is the time for hearty rustic cuisine found at The Olive & Grape restaurant. The Olive & Grape, located at 8516 Greenwood Ave N, features authentic Italian and Turkish fare in an atmosphere that is warm and inviting. Join us at 5:30 p.m. for Happy Hour specials and/or dinner at 6:00 p.m. on November 21. Check out their menu at www.theoliveandgrape.com. RSVP to Bev Edmon.

The Ladies Guild is holding their luncheon this Wednesday, November 16 at 12:00 PM.

Today in Sunday School, the children learned about how God saved the Hebrews by parting the waters of the Red Sea and how God saves us through the washing of water in Holy Baptism.  Exodus 13:17-15:21.  Ask your children to tell you what they know about this story.  Talk about how God fights for us and saves us from sin, death, and the devil.  Talk about Baptism and how water combined with Gods Word washes you clean from sin and gives you eternal life.

On November 20 during the Education Hour, Deaconess Gail Ludvigson  will give a short presentation (15 min) about Lutheran Bible Translator and her work there.

The Ladies Guild/Mary Martha Ministries and Messiahs Social Ministries Committee are once again sponsoring Messiahs Annual Thanksgiving Cornucopia Food Shower.  Donated items can be placed on the large table in the Narthex across from the cookie bar.  Suggested items would include: dry cereals, cocoa, coffee, canned goods, sugar, flour, baking supplies, peanut butter, jelly, soups, canned meat and tuna fish.  Deadline for bringing food in for the cornucopia is Sunday, November 20All food will be on display in the sanctuary on Thanksgiving morning.

This year for our Christmas project we want to say Merry Christmas to the men and women in our military forces serving in various countries. Working with LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces, we will be collecting the items listed to send to chaplains who will distribute the items to the men and women in their areas. The DEADLINE for the collection of these items will be DECEMBER 4.  In addition, there are Christmas cards that you may write a note that will be sent with the collected items. If you would like to donate money the shopping will be done for you. (This project replaces the Lake City Children's Project.)

The Youth are sponsoring an Advent Food Drive for the Lake City Food Bank.  The food drive runs from November 27 - December 18.  Needed are dried pastas, canned goods, boxed cereals and bags of dried beans.  Please look for a collection bin in the Narthex.  Thank you for your generous support.

Advent is upon us!  This also means that the Junior High and High School aged youth will be meeting in the Narthex after each Wednesday night service to go out for dessert.  This is a great time for fellowship and sweet treats!

If you are a Thrivent member and did not vote last week, you are encouraged to vote for the 2011-2012 Chapter Board Members for the North Seattle Chapter.  You will find the ballots on the table located in the Narthex.  Today is the final day.

Me, a Pastor?  Me, a Deaconess?  If you have found yourself asking this question, now is the time to discuss your future.  Rev. Neil Ray of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, is going to be in Seattle on Friday, December 9 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Lake City.  Come and explore the possibilities!   Conferences are individual and informal.  Reservations are not required; however, if you are able, please phone Rev. Ray at 260.452.2278 or his mobile at 260-452-0979 or feel free to email him at neil.ray@ctsfw.edu to make an appointment.

This year, we have available to us, the Advent Calendars.  Carol Martens  will be selling them during Education Hour starting this Sunday.   They are $3.00 a piece.  This is also an opportunity to sign up to purchase the Luther book ($10.00) if you missed it.  Messiahs 2009 Christmas CD will be available starting November 27  for $1.00 each.

The  Advent Devotionals are available in the back of the sanctuary.  Please take one on your way out this morning.
