The week of December 11, 2011

For weekly events at Messiah check out our online calendar

For December, we are collecting shaving cream, razors & aftershave for both Immanuel Community Services and Compass Cascade Women's Shelter.

Pastor’s AIC class will meet on December 15, at 7 p.m. with lesson 11, a study on “The Lord’s Supper” (three different views among Christians.) Walk-ins are always welcome.

Former Ensemble musicians - There will be a practice for Christmas Eve service on December 21 at 7 p.m. Please contact Bev Edmon if you would like to play with the current ensemble members. We are going to play from the front of church this year so we need to practice together prior to Christmas Eve. Questions? Please contact Bev Edmon.
One Night, One Community, One Vision. Save the date for Concordia Lutheran School’s Annual Auction coming Saturday, March 31, 2012.

Join us the Wednesday for an Advent Supper at 6 p.m. hosted by our Elders.

The Youth are sponsoring an Advent Food Drive for the Lake City Food Bank. The food drive runs from November 27 - December 18. Needed are dried pastas, canned goods, boxed cereals and bags of dried beans. Donation can be left on the large table in the Narthex. Thank you for your generous support.

Today in Sunday school - As we observe this Third Sunday in Advent, Sunday school students studied the story “An Angel Visits Mary.” In the womb of Mary, Jesus, the Son of God, became a man so that we sinful people might become adopted children of God and share in the inheritance of heaven. Parents might ask, “How does God make us His children? What do we inherit as God’s children?”

The Sunday school children will practice Saturday the 17 from 10:00 to 12:00. Parents please have your children in their class by 10:00 Sunday morning the 18.

Junior & Senior High Youth – Come meet us in the Narthex after next Wednesday night service to go out for dessert. This is a great time for fellowship and sweet treats!

Advent Calendars - Carole Martens will be selling Advent Calendars and the Messiah Christmas CD during the Education Hour this Sunday. Calendars are $3.00 and music CD’s are $1.00.

Pillowcase Dresses – All completed dresses need to be collected today. Bev Edmon will mail them to Gail Ludvigson who will take them to Africa in January. So far, we have 60 dresses to send with her. Thank you for supporting this continuing project. If you have any questions, please contact Bev Edmon.

There are two more opening for AIC Desserts in January. Please sign up to bring one of your favorite desserts to share with Pastor Lassman’s Thursday night class.

Poinsettias – There is a sign up sheet on the upstairs bulletin board if you would like to purchase a poinsettia to decorate the sanctuary this year. Cost is $8.00 and you may take your plant home with you anytime after Christmas Day.

The Ladies’ Guild Luncheon will be meeting this Wednesday, December 14 at the Wedgewood Broiler at noon. You are invited to join them!

Messenger Deadline is next Sunday.
