Pastor Lassman’s Adult Information Class will not meet this Thursday, 7 p.m. His next class will be on Thursday, April 28. Topic for study will be “The Lord’s Supper” (three different views among Christians). Those having completed the class are always welcome as drop-ins.
Today’s Sunday School - On this Palm Sunday the Sunday School lesson covers Matthew’s account of the Passion of Christ as He ventured to the cross for you and me. The Father, the perfect, righteous judge of the universe, forsook Jesus on the cross so that he perfect, righteous sacrifice, Jesus Christ could be punished for the sins of he whole world. Talk with your children about the wages of sin (death) and the gift of God (eternal life) in Christ Jesus. Talk about the importance of relying on Jesus blood and merit rather than our own works for salvation as you consider Luther’s explanation to the second article.
WA/AK Unit Good Shepherd Auxiliary - Please join us for a morning of fellowship, entertainment and lunch on Saturday, April 30, to be held here at Messiah. For more information, please see the flyer located on the upstairs and downstairs bulletin boards.
Junior high, senior high, and college age youth please meet in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, April 23, at 2:30 PM to help with food preparation, setting up tables, and decorating the Fellowship Hall. Volunteers will be asked to continue their much needed support on Sunday morning. After communion in the early service we will meet in the youth room and then we will head down to the Fellowship Hall where we will help with serving food, cleaning up dishes and cleaning up the Fellowship Hall.
Messenger deadline is TODAY!
Did you notice the Vacation Bible School bulletin board in the Narthex? It’s that time again! VBS this year is the week of June 27 to July 1. Thank you to those people who eagerly sign up to help. There are many volunteers still needed to make this year’s VBS a go! Please stop by and prayerfully consider how you can help. Where do you fit in? Questions? Please call Pastor or the church office at 524.0024.
We are still collecting items to help those people in Japan who have suffered such a tremendous loss. In May, Lutheran World Relief will be collecting all the Personal Care Kits we can donate. We are collecting dark bath towels, bars of soap, adult toothbrushes, combs and metal nail clippers. We are in special need of toothbrushes, combs and metal nail clippers. Please leave donations in the Narthex near the large table. Deadline for bringing items is Easter day.
Please mark your calendar for the LWML Olympic Zone Joy Shop, Sunday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. held at St James Lutheran Church. Guest speakers Ann Melvin and other members from Messiah will discuss their travels last summer to Guatemala. For more information, please read the flyer on the upstairs & downstairs bulletin boards.
Spring cleanup day will be Saturday morning, May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. We will be working both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, we will be cleaning and fixing areas, such as the Sanctuary floor, that don’t get covered on a weekly basis. Outdoors we will be weeding, pruning and doing general cleanup around the church. Bring pruners, rakes, brooms, gloves, etc. Refreshments and a lunch will be provided.
Please sign up on the upstairs bulletin board.
We will be sending approx 30 pillowcase dresses to Wisconsin for hand delivery to Pastor Ted Krey in the Dominican Republic. If you are currently working on dresses, please give them to Bev Edmon or Kathy Lassman today. We will continue to work on dresses throughout the year and send them to the Krey's via visitors from the U.S. (this saves the Krey's from paying duty). Many thanks to the ladies who are donating materials, prepping the dresses, and sewing. See the display in the Narthex.
Coming August 22-26, 2011! This year’s Continuing Education Class “No More ‘Peek-a-Boo’ Jesus:” Christology of the Old Testament. Understanding the Old Testament and its Christological character and foundation means we must first understand the Hebrew people and their covenantal relationship with God. Therefore, the task is not to “find” Jesus in the Old Testament, but rather to recognize that Christ is the Old Testament. Class will be taught by Professor Jeffrey Pulse from the Seminary at Fort Wayne. Cost for the class will be $150.00. If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet with more information and cost on the upstairs bulletin board. Contact Pastor Lassman (206.524.0024) on the best way to register.
