Men’s Night Out - Monday, June 6, at 6:00 p.m. at Ivar’s Salmon House, 401 NE Northlake Way. Please RSVP to Brian Danforth.
Due to lack of volunteers, VBS will not be offered this year.
For June, we will be collecting women’s hygiene supplies. Your donations are always appreciated at the Compass Cascade Women’s Shelter. Please leave your donations in the upstairs lounge area. Totals for the month of May were: 100 Toothpaste, 74 tooth brushes, 6 packages of floss and 5 lotions. Thank you to everyone!
Law & Gospel Class - Class will continue through the summer quarter. If you are interested in studying Walther’s lectures on the subject – you are invited. Thesis VII on June 2. Classes are on Thursday nights from 7-9 p.m. Books are available in the church office.
This summer, students in Sunday School will be looking at different journeys taken by God’s people and how God used these journeys for His purposes. Today, students studied “Journey with Adam & Eve” from Genesis 3. Students learned why Adam & Eve had to journey out of the garden of Eden. Parents might ask, “Why did God send Adam and Eve out of the garden? How did God solve the problem?”
“Mission In Motion” This is the last Sunday to pledge Margie Longan as she participates in the “Pledge, Walk & Exercise” at the LWML’s 34th Biennial Convention in Peoria, Illinois! Margie will be one of many participating in “Moving for Missions.” All donations need to be collected by next Sunday, June 12. Please make checks payable to Messiah Lutheran Church and memo it to LWML. Pledges can be sent to the office, given to Margie, or dropped off in the Sunday offerings designated LWML mission walk.
The youth of Messiah attending the Higher Things conference will be washing cars on June 12 and June 26 between Sunday services and for an hour after late service to raise funds for their trip. Cars are being washed and dried (dried, weather permitting) for your generous donations. So pull your cars up to the Northeast Cleaners just south of Messiah on the corner of 35th & 70th and let us wash your car!
This will be the last Sunday the youth will be selling cookies to raise money for their trip to the Higher Things conference. Please stop by the cookie bar and purchase cookies to help fund their trip. The youth thank you for your generosity!
Coming August 22-26, 2011! This year’s Continuing Education Class “No More ‘Peek-a-Boo’ Jesus: Christology of the Old Testament.” Cost for the class will be $150.00. If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet with more information on the upstairs bulletin board. Contact Pastor Lassman 206.524.0024 on the best way to register.
Thank you to Kathy Lassman, Grace Brod, Debbie Viets, Mazie Johnson and Jill Cohrs who completed all 3 confirmation banners and partially completed 3 more baptismal banners. Your work is greatly appreciated!
How you can serve in your church
New schedules will be coming out in the end of June. Would you like to serve in your church? There are many ways and opportunities you can help.
Children’s Message presenter: You are given helpful messages for your assigned Sunday to assist you in your short 3 minute presentation to the children. (Must be approved by Pastor)
Transportation: We have local members who require a ride to church. This usually would take one Sunday a month per driver.
Readers: Reading the weekly lesson during the service. Each reader is mailed their readings in advance to practice. For high school age and above.
Ushers: Join a current team of ushers. It’s a simple but important job! High schoolers too!
Greeters: It is always nice to be greeted at the door and warmly welcomed. Have a “touch” phobia? That’s okay, there is no need to shake hands, just give a warm welcome.(High school and above)
Cookie Makers: Love to make cookies and enjoy the smiles of buyers? We would like to fill in a few holes in our rotation. You don’t have to stay for both services if we can get enough helpers. It’s as simple as placing frozen dough on a sheet, baking and packaging.
If you would like to serve your church, please contact the church office by June 12 at 206.524.0024.
Please prayerfully consider where you could join to serve.
